Norbert
Hornstein, Professor of Linguistics at the University of Maryland,
is visiting CSMN between the 4th and the 17th of October 2009.
Norbert Hornstein teaches linguistics at the University of
Maryland, College Park. His main area of interest is in syntactic
theory, especially contemporary minimalist approaches to grammar.
He has written extensively on this topic (some say TOO extensively,
but never mind), including three books 'Move!: a minimalist theory
of contrual,' 'Understanding Minimalism' (with J. Nunes and K.
Grohmann), and 'A
Theory of Syntax: minimal operations and Universal Grammar.'
His current specific research focus is on the movement theory of control, a reinterpretation of island effects and a sidewards movement approach to "interesting" argument structure (e.g. double object consrutctions and resultatives).
